MAN OF THE YEAR SPORTS AWARD NOMINEES

BENJAMIN AZAMATI

He is Ghanaian sprinter, who currently competes for ASICS Global. As part of his achievements, he won a gold medal in the 4x100m relay at the 2019 African Games in Rabat and also won the GUSA 100m on two occasions. He improved the 100m national record with 9.97 in 2021 and improved his 200m personal best to 20.13 He qualified to Tokyo Summer Olympics by breaking a national record held by Leo Myles Mills in Texas after clocking 9.97 seconds.


YUSIF BASIGI

He is a former footballer and professional football manager who currently coaches the Hasaacas Ladies F.C. and the Ghana women’s national under-20 football team. As part of his coaching career he coached former Ghana Premier League team; Sekondi Hasaacas in 2016, Ghana women’s national under-17 football team and Ghana women’s national football team for 5 years. He was awarded as the Western Region most outstanding coach and Western Region coach of the year in 2007 and 2013 respectively. He was honoured by the Ghana Education Service for his service and role in the development and promotion of girls’ soccer in Western Region Schools Sports Federation.


FAISAL ABUBAKAR

He is the New Super Lightweight Champion after fourth rounds stoppage in the main of the DE-Luxy professional boxing league fight night. His victory has brought hope to the Zongo dwellers.


ALEXANDER DJIKU

He is a professional footballer who plays as a defender for Ligue 1 club Strasbourg and represent the Ghana national team. He had a stellar year under review after helping Strasbourg finish sixth in the French Ligue 1 and also playing a pivotal role in Ghana’s World Cup qualification. He was crowned “Footballer of the Year” at the Ghana Football Awards.
