On Sunday, 24th November, 2024, the 9th EMY Africa Awards lit up the Grand Arena. It unfolded into an unforgettable evening of celebration, inspiration, and unmatched elegance. This year’s event, like the ones before it, brought together an extraordinary mix of trailblazers, thought leaders, and cherished personalities, all in honour of African excellence and achievement.
The night was a feast for the senses, with powerful performances from Chike, who melted hearts with his soulful melodies, Becca, who serenaded the audience with her timeless music, and Kidi, who brought his signature energy to the stage. Stonebwoy, Man of the Year – Music for this year, crowned the night with a surprise performance as a tribute to the Ultimate Man of the Year.
This year’s event boasted a remarkable roster of distinguished guests. The 8th EMY Africa Man of the Year, Alex Dadey, graced the occasion, alongside EMY Africa Board Chairman, Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong. Adding an extra layer of star power were the legendary South African actor John Kani and the globally acclaimed venture capitalist and mentor, Vusi Thembekwayo. Diplomatic dignitaries, including Malta’s High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Jean Claude Galea Mallia, and South Africa’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Grace Jeanet Mason, brought an air of international prestige.
Some of Africa’s most cherished stars and influencers also lit up the red carpet with their presence. Among them were celebrated actors Richard Mofe-Damijo and James Gardiner, acclaimed actresses Lydia Forson and Juliet Ibrahim, and football icon Stephen Appiah.
The crowning moment of the evening was the grand recognition of Dr. James Orleans-Lindsay as the Ultimate Man of the Year. Renowned for his dedication to business, philanthropy, and community development, Dr. James embodies the core values that define the EMY Africa Awards: leadership, purpose, and the power to inspire greatness.
The 9th EMY Africa Awards transcended being just an event; it became a tribute to the essence of Africa—our extraordinary people, our compelling stories, and our shared vision for a brighter, united future. As we set our sights on the monumental 10th edition, our commitment remains resolute—to honour those shaping Africa’s narrative and inspiring generations yet to come.
